University Commons

Knoxville, Tennessee

Anchored by Publix and Walmart, University Commons is Knoxville’s first urban, multi-level retail center. The shopping center is built on a former industrial site in the urban core. CHM, LLC worked with both the City of Knoxville and Knox County and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation to obtain brownfield status and New Market Tax Credits that allowed the contaminated site to be developed. The International Council of Shopping Centers awarded the project a U.S. Design and Development Gold Award in 2016. University Commons opened to the public in 2014.
